Mind and Body

Day 23 (February 26, 2019)

Hey there God,

This morning, I REALLY wanted to have the sugary cereal sitting on top of the fridge. (Makes me salivate just thinking about it.) But I didn’t! Not because I couldn’t. I mean, I am an adult, and I can eat whatever I want for breakfast. (Mmmm, like the ice cream in the freezer.) It’s just that I woke up thinking it might be a good idea to eat a more nutritious breakfast. You see, I have been working hard to keep my mind healthy lately, and I do not want the rest of me to fall to the wayside. So, I looked at the different frozen fruit bags in the freezer and chose the mixed berry bag without pomegranate seeds (because those little devils almost destroyed my teeth the last time I ate some)!

I put about a cup of the frozen mixed berries into the blender and then added one of those single serve vanilla/strawberry yogurt cups in after. Since I did not have plain orange juice, I grabbed the mixed fruit juice I had in the fridge—made up of pineapples, oranges, and bananas—and poured a good amount of it over the yogurt and frozen berries. And, boom, before you know it, I had a berry smoothie in my hands. It tasted absolutely delicious, but I will say that berries would be a heck of a lot better if they didn’t have all those dang seeds. (Ha, I guess, I just wish I could eat a healthy berry smoothie without the hassle of having to floss right after.)

Drinking a berry smoothie may not seem like something to write home about, but I can’t help but think that it made a difference in my day. I began the day mindful of healthy choices—not just for one part of my body but for my body as a whole. My hope is that this will become a habit. It is definitely possible since I have, now, shown myself how easy—and quick—it is to start the day off in a healthy way. With just a small amount of effort, I proved to myself that I can feed my body nutritious foods and, at the same time, spark positivity in my mind due to the wise choice. I have the capability of taking care of both my mind and body without letting one fall to the wayside. It will take some effort to make it a habit—effort I am obviously capable of giving. (I guess I will just have to do a bit more flossing, God, especially with berry smoothies in the mix.) If that is the price I must pay, for a healthy mind and body, I will gladly pay it.

Always,

Your Daughter Kaitlan

P.S. God, will you help all of us to remember to take care of both our mind and body? Don’t let us solely focus on one or the other. Help us to continually see, that with a bit of effort, we can make big changes for the betterment of both mind and body together. And, once we truly see how possible all that is, help us make those healthy choices a habit. Thank you!
