Udon Soup for the Annoyed Soul

Day 56 (March 31, 2019)

Hi God,

I am going to keep this short and sweet. BOY, DO I LOVE MY MOM. Today, there were just a bunch of things piling up on my heart, and I was beyond frustrated. So, I called my mom up and was like, “Mom, I am so frustrated, and I need to vent.” And, without a second thought, my mom ran upstairs—even though her dinner was about ready to be served—so she could listen to me spill my grievances. Whenever I need to have a heart-to-heart with her on video chat—whenever I need what I am sharing to stay between her and I—she always goes and sequesters herself away in her restroom, sits on the edge of the tub, and then looks into her phone screen all ears. (Isn’t she the cutest, Lord!?) I think what meant the most to me, today, was that she just let me spill my heart out and did not try to fix anything—advice was minimal, and listening was emphasized.

My mom just listened to what was bothering me and confirmed that what I was feeling was not wrong or blown out of proportion. It means everything to me that I can trust my mom to hold the things I tell her, the things I share with her in confidence, close to her heart, and I never have to worry about my mom blabbing. Ha, once I was done venting, I told my mom that we were about to eat Japanese food and, Lord, sometimes there is nothing better than talking stuff out with your mother, and then washing the last remnants of grievances down with a bowl of udon soup. In my opinion, it has just as great of an effect, for the poor annoyed soul, as the famous chicken noodle variety haha. (Makes me wonder what your go to food was, Lord, when you had heart-to-hearts with your mom??) All I’ve got to say is that I sure am thankful to you, Lord, for giving me such a special person in my life whom I can trust to lend an ear from 3,000 miles away. It means so much.

Always,

Your Daughter Kaitlan

P.S. Lord, can I ask that you provide people with a trustworthy person in each of their lives that they can share their annoyances with? A person—family member, friend, counselor, etc.—who knows when it is a good time to listen and when it is a good time to give advice. While it is important to have another human being to confide in, and vent to, can you also help us remember that we have you to talk to as well—our Heavenly Father—who is the greatest listener of all!?

After all we are reminded in Isaiah 59:1, “Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor his ear too dull to hear.” We can share anything with you, Lord, and know, without a doubt, that you will hear our prayers—especially those concerning our anxiousness—and you will hold our words close to your heart. Please help each one of us to remember you are never far away and are always willing to lend an ear to us because you love us. Thank you, Lord. Love you!!
